Analysis Of Hogg And Vaughn ( 2008 ) - 1273 Words
Hogg and Vaughn (2008) proposed that paralinguistic features used to communicate a message between sender and receiver, would impact on how the message was interpreted by the audience. When performing my presentation to the class, my verbal communication needed to be clear and concise to get an accurate message to the receiver. In order to achieve this, I needed to speak at an appropriate volume, so not to shout at the audience, conveying an aggressive form of communication but also not to be coy so that I could not be heard. In conjunction with volume, the pitch and pace at which I communicated was also important. However, due to being nervous, I spoke with a high pitch, low volume and at a fast pace. This had a negative impact on how the information was communicated to the audience. It exerted anxiety and urgency from the sender to the receiver, which caused a barrier to communication. In reflection of this experience, I have learnt that by controlling my verbal communication, I can converse with confidence and ensure a clear message is received.
